How to Judge the Working Condition of the Air Filter
In simple terms, the main function of the air filter is to separate the liquid water and liquid oil droplets from the compressed air, and filter out the dust and some solid impurities in the air, but it will not remove the water and oil in the gaseous state. Therefore, air filters are generally installed in fields such as pneumatic machinery and internal combustion machinery. So, when it is in operation, how can we determine that the air filter is working properly? When should it be maintained? And when should it be replaced? Now, experts from Tianxiongda will tell you.
The service life and maintenance interval of the air filter should be measured by the ratio of the gas flow rate passing through the filter element of the air filter to the gas flow rate required by the engine:
(1) When the flow rate is greater than the flow volume, the air filter is working normally;
(2) When the flow rate is equal to the flow volume, the air filter should be maintained;
(3) When the flow rate is less than the flow volume, the air filter can no longer be used. Otherwise, the working condition of the engine will deteriorate more and more, and it may even stop working. In this case, a new air filter needs to be replaced.
In actual work, when the filter element of the air filter is blocked and cannot meet the air flow rate required by the engine, the working state of the engine will be abnormal. The specific manifestations are as follows:
(1) The roaring sound is dull, and the acceleration is slow (due to insufficient air intake resulting in insufficient cylinder pressure);
(2) The engine is weak in operation (because the mixture is too rich, resulting in incomplete combustion);
(3) The water temperature rises relatively (the combustion continues when entering the exhaust stroke);
(4) The exhaust smoke becomes thicker during acceleration.
When the above symptoms occur, it can be judged that the air filter is blocked, and the filter element should be removed in a timely manner for maintenance or replacement of the air filter. At the same time, when maintaining the filter element of the air filter, attention should be paid to the changes in the color of the inner and outer surfaces of the filter element. After removing the dust on the surface of the filter element, if the original color of the outer surface of the filter paper is clear and the inner surface is bright, the filter element can continue to be used; if the outer surface of the filter paper has lost its original color, or the inner surface is dim, the filter element must be replaced.
